なぜかこの選挙中、メールで、候補者に×をつける投票も認めようとか、入れる人がいないから白票を入れるので白票の数も数えて云々という意見が多く寄せられた。

民主主義はそんなに甘いものではない。立候補している候補者はろくでもない、気に入らない、だから×、あるいは白票を入れよう、自分は安全なところで何もしない。そんな都合のいいことが通るわけはない。

民主主義には権利と義務がつきまとう。権利は選挙権であり、被選挙権だ。そして、義務も全く同様に選挙権であり、被選挙権だ。

手を挙げようとしている人間がろくでもないというならば、彼らに×をつけて非難するのではなく、自分が手を挙げる。それが民主主義だ。自分が手を挙げる覚悟も勇気もなくて、手を挙げた人間の悪口を言って事が済むほど世の中は甘くない。

手を挙げた人間がろくでもないならば、自分が手を挙げる。自分が手を挙げる覚悟と勇気がないならば、それを持って手を挙げた人間の中からベストを選ぶ。それが民主主義だ。

選挙権を持った国民、被選挙権を持った国民それぞれがフィールドに立っているプレイヤーだ。自分はＰＫを蹴らないけれど、外した奴の批判はする、では通らない。あいつはＰＫ外しそうだというならば、自分が蹴ろうとするべきだ。
